product introduction
1. what is microsilica (silica fume)?
a byproduct of ferrosilicon or industrial silicon products. microsilica (or silica fume) is an amorphous, powdered sio2 collected by specially designed dust collector after the oxidization of silicon steam from a flue during the smelting of silicon iron or industrial silicon.

2. history of microsilica
first mentioned in u.s. patents in 1947
the first concrete test was carried out in norway in 1950
first used in commercial concrete in 1971
concrete was allowed in norway in the early 1970s
norway produced about 55,000 tons per year in 1980
there were product standards in 1987 (canada, astm, etc.)
since 2000 domestic environmental control, a large number of collection production, wide application
3. microsilica -- physical properties
particle size: most particles are sub-micron with an average particle size of 0.15 microns, about 100 times smaller than cement particles.
granule shape: smooth spherical granule. specific gravity is about 2.2 (typical cement value 3.1). specific surface area range is 15,000 ~ 30,000 m2/kg (nitrogen adsorption bet test)
the color changes from white, grey to grey and deep grey as c and fe2o3 content increases.
microsilica -- chemical properties
the content of silica is more than 85%, and the amorphous active silicon has the volcanic active energy to react with ca(oh)2, and the burning loss is less than 6%
the rising furnace gas also contains impurities, such as free c, fe2o3, cao, k2o, na2o and so on.
product specification
there are three types according to the density:
1. the directly precipitated microsilica, which is called primary dust, has a density of 130~180kg/m3.
2. for the convenience of transportation and engineering application, the original ash is encrypted. the bulk density of 320-350kg/m3 is semi-encrypted with the encrypted microsilica. the bulk density of 600-700kg/m3 is fully encrypted.

application of microsilica
the properties of microsilica are mainly shown in two aspects: volcanic ash activity and microparticle property. therefore, microsilica is mostly used as filler and modified additive.
♦ used in high performance concrete, concrete strength, improve performance, extend the service life of concrete
♦ used for refractory material, enhance liquidity, reduce water consumption, improve the product strength and durability
♦ for dry mortar, grout material, and improve the early strength
♦ for wear-resisting flooring, increase the fluidity and improve the resistance to abrasion
♦ used in paint, paint, resin, rubber, and other fillers in polymer materials
the role of microsilica in high-performance concrete
♦ can decrease the chloride ion and seawater erosion effect on concrete
♦ makes concrete with high resistivity
♦ can improve buildings such as airport runways, aircraft carrier deck, the wear resistance of highway etc
♦ can have strong ability of resistance to chemical corrosion.
the role of microsilica in refractory industry
microsilica is widely used in refractory industry. it plays an important role in the improvement of amorphous refractories, as follows:
♦ traditional refractory has many pores, micro microsilica filling in pore, increase the volume density and lower porosity and strength can be enhanced obviously.
♦ microsilica has strong activity, can form colloidal particles in the water, add right amount of dispersant, can strengthen liquidity, thus improving casting performance
♦ microsilica in water is easy to form - si - oh, strong hydrophilicity and activity, can enhance cohesion of refractory material, at the same time have bigger improve the performance of high temperature, and can prolong the service life of refractory products
♦ instead of pure aluminium oxide mud as refractory materials, cost savings
other applications of microsilica
♦ used in cement industry this is similar to adding material of concrete, at present, some countries in the aspect of development of this application, developed a variety of mixing cement, the quality is better than that of ordinary cement.
