how to improve the concrete

microsilica is a mineral mixture composed of very fine solid silica spheres. most silicon particles are less than 1 micron (0.00004 inches) in diameter and are typically 50 to 100 times smaller than normal cement or fly ash particles. microsilica is often called condensed silica fume and is a by-product of industrial production of silicon iron and silicon metal in high temperature electric arc furnaces.
the role of microsilica in concrete
two ways of strength and durability of microsil concrete: volcanic ash and silicon micropowder provide more uniform distribution and larger volume of hydration products; as a filler, microsilica reduces the average pore size of cement slurry. silica gel can be used as admixture to improve both fresh and hardened concrete properties. as a partial alternative to cement, silica gel can replace energy consumption of cement without sacrificing quality.
adding microcrystals to the concrete mixture changes the cement paste structure. the resulting paste contains more powerful calcium silicate hydrates less weak and soluble calcium hydroxide than ordinary cement. because the fine particles are small, they are dispersed among the cement particles and separated. the obtained uniform matrix can significantly improve the compressive strength, bending strength and bond strength.
microsilica reduces carbonation and chloride permeability, has high resistivity and has little effect on oxygen transport. therefore, it can be expected that the microsilica used for concrete has a strong protective effect on the reinforcement and buried layer.
consider blending and placement
due to its excellent fineness, the microsilica has a processing problem. some manufacturers are mixing microsilica to form mud in tank trailers designed to treat liquids based on pounds of water. the water of the slurry replaces the part normally added to the mixture. when there is no water reducer, microsilica is added to concrete to call for more water to maintain a given recession. the gel formed in the first minute of mixed silica gel concrete absorbs water and hardens the mixture, so it needs to be adjusted for charging and placement.
